Errors can occur whenever data is transmitted or stored, so systems need ways to detect them. This topic covers parity checks using odd and even parity, parity blocks, checksums, echo checks and check digits. For each method you will look at how it works, what kinds of error it catches, and where it fails — for example, why a single parity check cannot detect two errors in the same byte.
